Blues are now keen to bring England attacker to the Bridge.
Chelsea will turn their attentions towards Manchester United front man Wayne Rooney this summer after being priced out of a move for coveted Napoli forward Edinson Cavani, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The west London club had been hoping to bring the Uruguay international to Stamford Bridge when the summer transfer window reopened at the start of this week, however, the Blues now look like missing out to big-spending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the race for his signature.
And that means that new Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho will instead turn his attentions towards the unsettled United attacker, who has been the subject of much speculation of late suggesting that the 27-year-old could be about to quit Old Trafford,
Rooney is reportedly unhappy with life in the north west and was supposed to have even handed in a transfer request towards the end of the previous campaign, although the player himself strongly denies those claims.
However, after a season in which Rooney netted just 16 goals in his 36 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, Chelsea feel that the forward could be a more economical option than Cavani this summer.
