Chelsea could look to move for an incredible double swoop on John Stones and Raphael Varane before the end of the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Blues skipper John Terry was hauled off at half-time during Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City last week and was given his marching orders on Sunday against West Bromwich Albion after he was adjudged to have denied Salomon Rondon a clear goalscoring opportunity.
Jose Mourinho has seen his side ship seven goals in its opening three Premier League fixtures, and The Daily Mail reports the Portuguese boss is keeping an eye on both Stones and Varane.
The duo are considered to be amongst the best young centre-backs in Europe, and Chelsea are reportedly ready to make a £40m bid for Stones.
Varane is highly-rated by Real Madrid, however, the Frenchman has struggled for first-team action at the Bernabeu with Sergio Ramos and Pepe currently the preferred centre-back combination.
The 22-year-old has previously worked under Mourinho during the Portuguese manager’s stint at Real Madrid, and it remains to be seen if he can lure Varane to Stamford Bridge.
