Everton defender John Stones has been forced to flee his home after being heckled by disgruntled Toffees fans, according to reports.
The Merseyside club rejected Chelsea’s £37m bid for the star defender this week, and The Sun reports Stones has moved into a hotel after copping abuse from angry fans.
Stones reportedly handed in a transfer request after it became apparent Chelsea were desperate to sign him, however, Everton blocked his request and have turned down four bids from the Premier League champions.
According to the report, Chelsea will not come back with a fifth bid and Stones looks certain to remain at Goodison Park this season.
Everton boss Roberto Martinez is understood to have told Stones face-to-face that the 21-year-old’s transfer request had been turned down.
Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright confirmed the club’s stance in a statement released on Thursday evening.
“Everton Football Club has rejected a transfer request from John Stones,” the statement read.
“Since the start of the transfer window, we have resolutely turned down offers from another Premier League football club for our player.
“John is not for sale and he will remain a highly valued member of our first team squad.”
