Young Frenchman wants assurances from current employers.
Chelsea target Raphael Varane is said to be looking to engage in showdown contract talks with Real Madrid before deciding on his future, according to the Metro.
Reports close to the club are suggesting that the youngster is currently on just £25,000 per week, which is much less than most of his teammates in the Spanish capital, and he is said to be interested in discussing improved terms before weighing up his options elsewhere.
Chelsea have held a long standing interest in the player as manager Jose Mourinho had him under his wing during his time in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu, and he is hopeful of brokering a reunion at Stamford Bridge in the near future.
Mourinho has already added Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa to his squad this week, while a fee has been agreed with the La Liga champions for left-back Filipe Luis.
However, the Blues boss is said to be eager to add more defensive cover to his line up having recently sold the popular David Luiz to Paris Saint Germain last month.
Varane is reported to be Mourinho’s top target now, and is carefully monitoring his situation in Madrid while he decides to plot a move.
