Chelsea will launch a renewed bid for Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric – and could offer Yossi Benayoun as part of the deal.
New Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas has grown concerned by the lack of creativity in his midfield – which he felt was shown up in Sunday’s goalless draw at Stoke.
The West London club will now offer £30m cash or £27m plus Benayoun to land long-term target Modric.
According to The Sun, understands the Israeli midfielder is not against a move to White Hart Lane and believes he could acquire more first team action there.
Chelsea’s opening offer of £22m for Modric was rejected out of hand, whilst the currently they have a £27m on the table.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has adopted a tough ‘not for sale’ stance with the Croatian playmaker, despite the midfielder expressing a desire to move to Stamford Bridge.
But it is believed boss Harry Redknapp is softening in his stance towards selling Modric, who is unlikely to play in the Europa League game at Hearts on Thursday night.
Redknapp is a known admirer of Benayoun, and showed interest in the attacking midfielder when he left Liverpool for Chelsea last year.
The 31-year-old has failed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge having had his debut season hampered by a heel injury which saw him make just one Premier League start.
