Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho reportedly remains desperate to sign defender John Stones despite Everton’s insistence that he is not for sale.
According to The Guardian, Chelsea will go back to Everton with an offer of £26m, after having their initial bid of £20m rejected a fortnight ago.
Martinez was angry with Mourinho due to their negotiations being publicised, but the Portuguese is not backing down as he is keen on the Blues adding a new defender for next season.
Stones is believed to be keen on leaving Everton to sign with the Premier League champions, although Manchester United are apparently preparing to enter the race and offer him an alternative.
It is possible that United’s interest has prompted Chelsea to return with an improved bid.
The 21-year-old is viewed as a long-term replacement for John Terry at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s captain is entering his 18th season at Stamford Bridge.
