Chelsea are ready to exploit Juventus’ interest in defender Alex to try to bring Milos Krasic to Stamford Bridge.

The likelihood of the Bianconeri selling a player who excelled in his first year at the club would, on the surface, seem remote though their determination to land the Brazil international could see them change their stance. At least that is the thinking at Chelsea who are reported to have received a £10m bid for the centre back and are mulling over a counter offer involving Juve’s Serbia international.

With Branislav Ivanovic impressing alongside John Terry in pre-season, Alex could be deemed surplus to requirements by new boss Andre Villas-Boas especially with David Luiz and new signing Oriol Romeu both capable of playing his role. Where Chelsea are lacking is in creativity – both through the middle and on the flanks. Luka Modric is seen as the answer in the centre of the pitch but the issue out wide is yet to be addressed.

Krasic has been earmarked as an option though his signing had been been considered a long shot. However, Chelsea are rarely shy about testing the water when it comes to pursuing another club’s key personnel and it seems likely that they will now examine just how highly Juventus prize Alex’s signature.
