With long-time goalkeeper Petr Cech now a member of the Gunners, the Blues have moved quickly to find his replacement and may slip past Man United to get their man.
According to the Daily Star, Chelsea have emerged as the new favorites to sign Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, who has over 50 clean sheets in 170 appearances for Stoke since 2010. Estimates have Begovic’s price tag valued at £14 million, which may be a bit much for Chelsea given that their replacement would be merely a backup to Thibaut Coirtois.
The Daily Star reported that Stoke have already rejected a bid from Aston Villa but have lingering interest from Man United. The Red Devils have had a pressing need for a potential replacement for disgruntled stopper David de Gea, who is poised to leave Old Trafford this summer.
Begovic was the Stoke City Player of the Year in 2013 and was voted the Stoke City Players’ Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014. He holds the Guinness World Record for “longest scored goal in football” thanks to a 2013 shot he made from his end of the pitch against Southampton that traveled 97.5 yards and past Artur Boruc for the record-setting score.
