Chelsea look to have missed out on Everton defender John Stones, as the Toffees have all but put the final nail in the coffin of the Stones transfer saga.
According to the Daily Star, the Blues are taking their business elsewhere as they will look at alternate options after having their fourth bid rejected by the Toffees.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has refused to sell the 21-year-old, despite Chelsea’s latest offer of £37m – a British record fee for a defender.
Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane and Zenit St. Petersburg’s Ezequiel Garay are now being linked to a move to Chelsea.
At just 22 years of age, Varane would be a massive addition to the Chelsea defence and is considered to be one of the world’s best young centre-backs.
It remains to be seen whether he can serve as a viable long-term replacement for 34-year-old captain John Terry.
Garay offers plenty of versatility, as he has shown the ability to score after coming up with six goals for Benfica in 27 appearances during the 2013-14 season.
