Blues also in the running to sign Bundesliga winger.Chelsea could be set to rival Liverpool in the chase for Bayern Munich and Switzerland winger Xherdan Shaqiri this summer, according to Infoticker.ch.
The 22-year-old seems likely to be heading for the Allianz Arena exit before the start of next season after struggling to hold down a regular place in the Germans champions’ star-studded squad, with strong rumours of interest from the Premier League.
Liverpool are known to be in the market for further attacking midfielders to follow up their addition of Adam Lallana, and it was thought that Shaqiri could be the next player of that type brought in by manager Brendan Rodgers.
However, Chelsea are also keen to sign new wide-players this summer, and may now focus their attention to Shaqiri after seemingly making little progress in their rumoured efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Ezequiel Lavezzi.
The Blues already have plenty of options in the attacking midfield department, but may see Shaqiri as an improvement on the likes of Willian and Andre Schurrle, who only impressed in fits and starts after moving to Stamford Bridge last summer.
Shaqiri caught the eye at this summer’s World Cup with a hat-trick in Switzerland’s 3-0 win over Honduras in the group stage, though his side were eliminated in extra time by Argentina in the next round.
