Lukaku set for another temporary spell away from Stamford Bridge.
The £32m transfer of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea could then see Romelu Lukaku go the other way in a loan move, reports Spanish publication AS.
Lukaku was an £18m signing for the Blues back in the summer of 2011, but the 21-year-old has spent the past two seasons away from Stamford Bridge with West Bromwich Albion and Everton – scoring 32 Premier League goals in the process.
Yet despite this manager Jose Mourinho is still unsure whether the Belgium international can be relied upon to be a regular starter and therefore the striker may have to leave West London once again next term in order to achieve first team football.
Atleti would be keen to take Lukaku on as well, as they look to replace Costa following the Spain international’s departure the other way.
The 25-year-old scored 37 goals in all competitions last campaign as Diego Simeone’s men won their first La Liga title since 1996 and reached their first ever Champions League final.
This form led Mourinho to activate Costa’s £32m release clause and the forward is understood to have already completed a medical in the English capital.
There are a number of Atletico stars linked with the Blues, with Felipe Luis, Koke and Tiago also being touted, whilst goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will also return to the Bridge following three years on-loan himself at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.
