Blues want to add more firepower to their attack next season.
New Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho will turn his attentions to Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez if he fails to lure first-choice striking target Robert Lewandowski to Stamford Bridge this summer, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Portuguese had been hoping to persuade Borussia Dortmund attacker Lewandowski to reject both Munich’s and Manchester United’s advances in favour of joining the Uefa Europa League winners for next season.
However, that dream is now believed to be fading fast, with the Pole set to sign for Premier League champions United rather than the Blues, meaning that Mourinho will switch his attentions to Munich’s Germany international instead.
The 27-year-old was only a bit-part player for the Bavarain giants in the last campaign as Munich won an historic Treble of Bundesliga, German Cup and Uefa Champions League, with the attacker playing in just 32 matches in all competitions for the Germans, netting 19 goals.
And now Mourinho wants to bring Gomez to the capital for next season as a replacement for misfiring forward Fernando Torres.
