The west London club are still in the hunt for former player Matic.
Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic remains a transfer target for Chelsea, but the Portuguese club have told them it will cost £25m, according to the Daily Mail.
The 25-year-old moved to the Estadio da Luz from west London as part of the deal that saw David Luiz go the other way, having not played a single first team match for the Blues.
However, since impressing in the Primeira Liga the side have renewed their interest in their former player and are looking to make a January transfer.
It could in fact be the sale of Luiz that funds the move for Matic, with both Barcelona and Bayern Munich interested in the Brazil international.
Jose Mourinho is extremely keen to find some recruitment in defensive midfield in the New Year, with both Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel failing to impress this season.
Also with Frank Lampard now 35-years-old the manager needs to be looking to the future and currently Ramires is the only player in the position showing any decent form.
Matic is recognised as one of the best defensive midfield stars in European football currently, having played 93 matches in all competition since arriving in Portugal in 2011.
Mourinho has already stated that the club will not be signing any strikers in January and sticking with the current crop of Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres.
However, that doesn’t mean the side won’t be acquiring midfield support.
