Jose Mourinho has experienced troubled times with his defensive line so far this season, with John Terry in particular receiving criticism and questions about his future.
As a result, it is no secret that the Blues wanted to sign Everton defender John Stones as a long-term replacement for the former England captain.
However, the Toffees have rejected three bids from Chelsea for the 21-year-old, and that has seemingly forced them to look elsewhere this transfer window.
That in turn has resulted in some questionable signings, and it remains to be seen how much of a role Hector plays immediately and moving forward if he can prove that he deserves to be at Stamford Bridge.
The Reading youngster joins Papy Djilobodji at the club as the Senegalese star also signed with Chelsea this week.
