Shaw could be arriving at Stamford Bridge with Bertrand going the other way.
The latest offer for Southampton starlet Luke Shaw from Chelsea is a swap deal involving out-of-favour left-back Ryan Bertrand, according to the Mirror.
Bertrand has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge as the 24-year-old is seemingly not in the plans of manager Jose Mourinho, with Liverpool the most interested party.
However, if the Saints were to allow Shaw to leave for west London then they would need a new full-back and in the Blues defender there is a ready made replacement.
The south coast club would demand at least £8m for their talented 18-year-old, plus Bertand, but with the Blues in desperate search for a long-term alternative to Ashley Cole this deal could well be on.
Shaw is a self confessed fan of Mourinho’s men and having impressed at St Mary’s for the past two seasons after a return to the Premier League for the club, many have shown interest in the teenager.
Not least Manchester United, who are also in need of a new left-back as it becomes increasingly apparent Patrice Evra will leave Old Trafford when the Frenchman’s contract expires this summer.
Yet Shaw’s preferred choice has always been Chelsea and now it seems the really disappointed side are going to be Brendan Rodgers’ Reds – who were hoping to sign Bertrand themselves.
