The west Londoners are prepared to move for Napoli’s Higuain.
In a bid to improve their attack Chelsea are preparing a surprise £48m transfer for Arsenal target and Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, reports the Sun.
Blues manager Jose Mourinho knows the Argentina international well having coached the 26-year-old for three years whilst in charge of Real Madrid.
Higuain has only been in Italy for six months following a £34.5m switch from the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer, but the Serie A club are prepared to do business.
Mourinho is desperate for attacking support with trio of forwards Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres all struggling for goal-scoring form.
With the rest of the west London club’s squad being so strong it is now only up-front where they lack world-class ability and the boss has already suggested that it could be this that costs them the title.
“The other guys [Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez] play their strengths and have super individual qualities: dribble, shots, sharp movement. They resolve problems,” the 50-year-old was quoted by the Daily Mail.
“We don’t have this kind of striker and need them to do different type of work.
“Do I expect more? Yes. Do we need more? Yes.”
Higuain meanwhile does possess that killer instinct and already has 14 goals in 22 matches for Napoli and has looked sharp once more.
The Argentine also netted 122 goals in six years with Madrid and has significant experience in the Champions League and on the international stage.
