AS Monaco have told Chelsea that star striker Radamel Falcao will cost £80 million if the Blues want to buy him in January.
The Daily Star report that the Colombian has told the principality club that he is unhappy at Stade Louis II, particularly with French tax laws drastically eating into his €14 million per season salary and leaving him with around 50% of that (€7m) in annual net pay.
Chelsea’s first response was a to submit a loan bid for Falcao, but as soon as that proved unsuccessful, Jose Mourinho has had to contemplate other methods of getting his man.
One way Chelsea have considered to persuade AS Monaco to bring the price of Falcao down is to offer a player in exchange for the prolific striker, with their own forwards Fernando Torres and Demba Ba potential makeweights in a swap deal.
Radamel Falcao is one of the few top class strikers in Europe who is not cup tied in UEFA competitions this season – alongside Liverpool star Luis Suarez – and as a result, Real Madrid are also interested.
Having spent over almost £144 million in the summer though, the Spanish giants will struggle to meet financial fair play regulations if they were to bid close to Falcao’s asking price.
