Inter Milan will not sell Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarin to Chelsea this winter transfer window, reports the Express.
The Premier League side want to strengthen their midfield, and had targeted the talented deep-lying playmaker as a potential January recruit.
With Frank Lampard ageing, John Obi Mikel defensively minded, and Ramires rated more for his dynamism than his guile, Guarin was targeted to add something extra to the Blues midfield – but it now appears that they will have to look elsewhere.
“Guarin is an Inter player and we are happy to keep him,” Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio said.
However, Ausilio has admitted that negotiations had taken place with Chelsea, but the two teams couldn’t reach an agreement.
“Denying the contacts with Chelsea would be denying the evidence. It is a source of pride to talk with them about one of our players, but everything stopped there,” he continued.
“We are happy Guarin could stay with us for a long time. We don’t have the intention to sell him. He’s an important player.”
The 27-year-old midfielder has been excellent for the Serie A giants this term, scoring three and assisting four so far.
