The chaos at St Mary’s could lead to Shaw’s departure.
The departure of chairman Nicola Cortese has plunged Southampton into turmoil and Chelsea are ready to capitalise and snap up youngster Luke Shaw, according to the Daily Express.
The Saints have been exceeding expectations in recent times, securing back-to-back promotions from League One and then the Championship in 2011 and 2012.
Last season they also avoided relegation, brought in talented manager Mauricio Pochettino and then spent vast sums on new transfers such as Pablo Osvaldo and Victor Wanyama in the summer.
The south coast side are also in the top 10 of the Premier League after a solid start to the 2013/14 campaign, but the news that Cortese is departing has caused chaos at St Mary’s.
Pochettino’s tenure as boss is also now in the balance and owner Katharina Liebherr has a tough task ahead as interim chairman.
One of the first tasks for Liebherr will be to decide what to make of the Blues’ £21m offer for 18-year-old left-back Shaw.
The defender is the latest in a long line of talented products from the club’s youth academy and the west London side have been touting the Englishman for some time.
Shaw is a self confessed Chelsea fan and is sure to be tempted by a switch to Stamford Bridge as a long-term replacement for veteran Ashley Cole.
An offer of £15m plus Ryan Bertrand (who is valued at around £6m) could well be an attractive prospect to Liebherr, but the fans are likely to be unhappy about another talented youth player leaving.
In recent times academy stars Gareth Bale, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott have all departed after impressing in the first team.
