Chelsea are lining up a move for Ligue 1 side Nantes’ impressive Senegalese defender Papy Djilobodji, and would ideally like to sign him this January, reports the Daily Star.
The 25-year-old has been superb for his French side this season, helping them concede just 17 goals in 19 matches, but unfortunately for Nantes, his form has not gone unnoticed.
Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund also want the powerful stopper, and Chelsea will have to act quickly to secure his signature.
Djilobodji is quick, strong, and his huge leap means he is rarely beaten in the air. He doesn’t possess the technical ability of David Luiz, or even Gary Cahill, but his physical prowess and never say die attitude makes him a perfect ‘Mourinho’ defender.
The Blues already have John Terry, Gary Cahill and David Luiz competing for two centre-back spots at Stamford Bridge, but if Luiz leaves to join Barcelona, Djilobodji could be his replacement.
