Southampton’s Shaw would be tempted by a switch to west London.
The pursuit of Southampton starlet Luke Shaw finally seems to be coming to an end as Chelsea close in on a deal for the 18-year-old, according to the Mirror.
The Blues view the teenager as the perfect replacement for Ashley Cole, but Shaw wouldn’t be prepared to play second fiddle if the left-back moved to Stamford Bridge.
Cole has had a poor season this term with form and a rib injury affecting the usually consistent England international.
This has led manager Jose Mourinho to play Cesar Azpilicueta on the left side of defence, as the 50-year-old seems unsure of Ryan Bertrand’s ability as well.
The 24-year-old has been targeted by Liverpool and Mourinho may allow Bertrand to leave in January and bring in Shaw.
The west London club have a reputation for buying up young talent and then sending them out on-loan to develop – such as Thibaut Courtois and Romelu Lukaku.
Yet Shaw wouldn’t be prepared to do that and Mourinho would have to blood the youngster in the starting XI immediately.
The full-back has supported the club since being a child and despite having been targeted by some of Europe’s elite, wants to make the move to the Bridge as a direct result of this.
Since breaking into the Saints first team last campaign, Shaw has just become more and more impressive and is now an established star at St Mary’s.
