Having bought Nemanja Matic back from Benfica in January in a £20.75m move, there is little need for the underachieving Mikel anymore.
The Nigeria international was a lot of hassle to sign back in 2006 when competing with the Red Devils for him, but has never really proven to be worth it.
Whether or not Mourinho decides to keep veteran Frank Lampard or not could determine Mikel’s future with the club.
