Southampton’s Shaw looks destined for Old Trafford.
The future of Southampton starlet Luke Shaw remains in the balance, as Manchester United emerge as favourites to sign the teenager once more ahead of Chelsea, according to the Daily Star.
The 18-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from St Mary’s in the summer after impressing for the past two seasons on the south coast.
Shaw is a self-confessed Blues fan and the west Londoners thought they could use this as leverage to convince the left-back to come to the capital.
However, after missing out on Everton’s Leighton Baines, United manager David Moyes has turned his attention to the Englishman and has a £22.5m offer waiting.
Moyes is keen to find a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra – who is expected to leave Old Trafford when the Frenchman’s current contract expires in the summer – and views Shaw as the ideal candidate.
The England under-21 international broke into the Saints first team in 2012 and has since played 55 matches for the club in all competitions, including 26 appearances this term.
The form of Shaw has been so impressive that national team manager Roy Hodgson has suggested that the youngster will get a place in his 23-man World Cup squad ahead of veteran Ashley Cole.
It would also be Cole that the full-back would replace at Stamford Bridge, with the 33-year-old having struggled for form and fitness this campaign and also expected to move on in the summer.
Although Jose Mourinho will have fellow left-backs Ryan Bertrand and Patrick van Aanholt returning from loan spells, the 51-year-old is a huge admirer of Shaw.
