Wolfsburg’s Rodriguez is a hot target for Europe’s elite.
There is much hype surrounding Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez and both AC Milan and Chelsea are competing to sign the 21-year-old, according to the Sun.
The Switzerland international has been one of the most impressive players in the entire Bundesliga this season and as such the defender has attracted plenty of attention.
However, whoever wants to sign Rodriguez will have to wait until after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil has finished.
“He will not move in January because Wolfsburg do not want to sell as they absolutely want to get into the Champions League,” the starlet’s representative Gianluca Di Domenico was quoted by the Sun.
“Maybe after the World Cup in June but it will not be easy for Milan as many clubs are interested.”
Rodriguez has been identified by Blues manager Jose Mourinho as a long-term replacement for veteran full-back Ashley Cole.
The Portuguese coach wants to find a successor for Cole as quickly as possible, with the 32-year-old having had problems with injury and form this term and dropped for much of the campaign in favour of Cesar Azpilicueta.
With the Swiss ace being so young, Mourinho views the defender as the ideal candidate to fill in on the left side of the back four.
Yet there will be strong competition for Rodriguez, who has played 19 matches in all competitions and even has three goals and three assists – as well as 17 caps for Switzerland to date.
