Chelsea players featured heavily in a combined Premier League and La Liga XI constructed by Spanish expert Guilleme Balague, via Sky Sports, in a team which weighed heavily in favour of the Spanish top division.
The only other player to make the team from these shores was Manchester United star David de Gea and the overall selection of the team will inevitably instigate some considerable debate.

Key Chelsea duo among eight players facing two-game bans if they get booked this weekend: Blues duo would miss Arsenal clash
Here is the team in full.
GK) David de Gea – Manchester United
Having the season of his life, there isn’t a goalkeeper in world football at this present moment who many can say is comfortably superior to De Gea. As his future continues to dominate the papers with a move to Real Madrid being mooted (via The Express), the Spaniard would improve any side.
RB) Branislav Ivanovic – Chelsea
One of three Chelsea players to make the team and it is hard to argue with his inclusion. Despite playing the game on the edge on most occasions, Ivanovic produces top-level performances on a consistent basis.
CB) Gerard Pique – Barcelona
After a period of stagnation, or regression in some people’s eyes, Pique has finally regained the form which made him one of Europe’s best as he claimed every trophy available to him at both international and club level.
CB) Diego Godin – Atletico Madrid
One of the unsung heroes in Diego Simeone’s historic Atletico Madrid side and has a knack of scoring very important goals. His header at the Nou Camp handed his team the title and he almost won the Champions League for the La Liga champions in Benfica last year.
LB) Jose Luis Gaya – Valencia
Probably the least known in this combined XI, Gaya is certainly gaining a reputation around Europe with the 19-year-old heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks (via the Metro).
