Blues cannot afford to sign Uruguay attacker.
Chelsea will switch their attentions to Borussia Dortmund front man Robert Lewandowski this summer if they fail to land first-choice forward Edinson Cavani from Napoli, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The west London club had made the prolific Uruguay international their No 1 transfer target for next season, however, the Blues are still unwilling to meet Napoli’s £53.5 million valuation of the centre forward, who himself would by all accounts prefer a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
And if that does happen when the transfer window reopens for business on July 1, then new Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho will turn his focus back towards the giant Poland international, who enjoyed a sensational campaign in front of goal last season.
The 24-year-old rattled in an eye-catching 36 goals in just 48 matches in all competitions for the Uefa Champions League and Bundesliga runners-up and with just one more year left on his current contract with Dortmund, Chelsea should be able to land the attacker for a fee somewhere in the region of £25m.
