Chelsea host Arsenal in the Barclays Premier League, with much of the pre-match talk surrounding managers Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger.
Blues boss Mourinho has naturally upped the mind games, stating “I admire Wenger and I admire Arsenal, a club that stands by its manager in bad moments – of which there were quite a lot.”
Wenger in turn responded to with a fairly transparent reference to Mourinho playing down his own team’s title chances.
“What is very interesting is you have Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, and that has not happened for years,” said the 64-year-old Frenchman, who takes charge of the Gunners for the 1000th time today.
“None of these four can say they’re not going for it, that would be stupid.”
Mourinho is unable to call upon either Ramires or Willian, who are both suspended for the game after red cards against Aston Villa, while Ashley Cole is injured.
Arsenal are in somewhat of an injury crisis, with Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott all missing. Oh, and Abou Diaby.
What’s more, the in-form Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a doubt for the fixture, as is the out of form Nicklas Bendtner, who hasn’t played since travelling to Copenhagen without Arsene Wenger’s permission.
Arsene Wenger has drawn five and lost five of his ten meetings with Jose Mourinho.
His 1000th game would be a good occasion to claim his first victory.
