Chelsea hope to attract attacking midfielder to Stamford Bridge with £25 million offer, which may prompt Arsenal into action.
Chelsea will offer FC Schalke 04 £25 million to sign their star playmaker Julian Draxler in the January transfer window, reports the Daily Star.
The Germany international has emerged as one of the brightest talents in his country in the last five years alongside Mario Goetze, but is likely to prove expensive.
Draxler has a minimum fee release clause of an eye-watering €45 million (approximately £38.2 million), and the Star claim that Blues owner Roman Abramovich only plans to offer £25m.
The 20 year-old’s performances for FC Schalke 04 and the German national side have resulted in such a price already appearing a worthwhile investment.
13 goals in 39 appearances last season are a great return for a teenager, and Draxler will only get better.
However, naturally FC Schalke 04 are far from keen to lose one of their best players so early in his career.
“Julian Draxler will be at our club this season, that is for sure,” said the Gelsenkirchen side’s general manager Horst Heldt.
“There will be no fuss regarding him during the January window as he is committed to our club.”
Draxler was linked with Arsenal for much of the summer before they signed Mesut Ozil.
