Blues will wait until Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial on August 9 before making fresh offer.
Chelsea will wait until after Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial on August 9 before submitting a new bid for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, the Independent report.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has already publicly disclosed his wish to sign the Rooney this summer and is reported to have made an offer around the £20 million mark that United swiftly rejected with the England international now set to feature in the match that will celebrate Ferdinand’s decade at the club.
It is then that Mourinho will reportedly step up his efforts to land Rooney, despite new manager David Moyes standing firm and insisting he will be staying at Old Trafford next season despite their fractured relationship.
Moyes’ recent assertion that he was no longer an automatic first choice pick apparently left the 27-year-old “angry and confused” and intensified his resolve to leave the club at which he has spent the last eight seasons.
This came after he apparently informed notified former boss Sir Alex Ferguson of his plans to leave the Premier League champions after the final game of the season with the tipping point thought to be his exclusion from the Champions League clash with Real Madrid in March.
One man who believes that Rooney will stay with United for is club legend Bobby Charlton, who said: “I still think Wayne Rooney will stay at Manchester United,” he said. “Wayne Rooney is a Manchester United player, and I think that he will continue to be a Manchester United player.”
