Mourinho will wait until after the United match to pursue Rooney…
Chelsea will make a final £40m offer for Manchester United’s wantaway striker Wayne Rooney after the two sides meet in the Premier League on Monday evening, reports the Mirror.
Jose Mourinho’s men will travel to Old Trafford to take on David Moyes’ side in the biggest game of the Premier League so far – and Chelsea will wait until after this match to make a final attempt to sign English forward Rooney.
Chelsea’s returning boss Mourinho has won both his Premier League matches so far, and is once again being typically enigmatic in the media.
“Let’s see. We make the bid and they say no again, what do we lose? One email?” said the boss when asked if he will move for Rooney again.
“We are going to get a maximum of two players in this transfer window, so if we get the second piece it will be the final piece.”
Chelsea have all but wrapped up a deal for Anzhi Makhachkala’s Brazilian playmaker Willian, after hijacking the 25-year-old’s transfer to Tottenham, but Rooney remains the Blues top target.
Out of respect for the club, Mourinho has confirmed that Chelsea will wait until after their clash with the Premier League champions before addressing the Rooney subject.
“The two answers we got from Manchester United so far were ‘We don’t accept the bid, we are not interested in selling the player.” That’s the only official contact we have had with Manchester United,” he said.
“Until Monday is finished, we have nothing more to add to it. We want to respect Manchester United and respect football.”
