Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has decided he is prepared to sell Brazilian centre-half David Luiz when the January transfer window opens, reports the Star.
Barcelona were heavily interested in the summer, but Chelsea rejected their advances and decided to keep the skilful 26-year-old.
Now though, Luiz has lost his place to John Terry and Gary Cahill in the centre of defence, and hasn’t started since Chelsea’s miserable 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at the start of November.
Luiz was heavily criticised for his performance that afternoon, and it appears that Mourinho has lost patience with his erratic defensive style.
The Brazilian currently starts for his country, so will be desperate to play first-team football consistently so he doesn’t lose his spot before next summer’s World Cup.
Barcelona need defensive reinforcements, especially with Carlos Puyol ageing and suffering with injuries, and Gerard Pique out of form.
Luiz could be available for around £30m, which Barcelona would be prepared to pay.
