The 29-year-old has been a disappointment at Old Trafford since arriving on a temporary deal in August, scoring just four times in 18 appearances for the Red Devils. With this proven failure in the Premier League it is surprising that Jose Mourinho would want to bring the player to Stamford Bridge, especially with his stratospheric wages.
However, with Didier Drogba now 37-years-old it is likely that the London club will need a new striker to act as a back up to first choice Diego Costa alongside Loic Remy. The Colombian could well fit in to this role.
Should this transfer get the go ahead it is likely that AS Monaco will be getting a far lower transfer fee than they were expecting just seven months ago. It would likely only cost £20 million for the forward, while he was being touted at £50 million in the summer.
