James Rodriguez says national teammate will be at Stade Louis II.
There is disappointment for Chelsea as new AS Monaco signing James Rodriguez reveals that Radamel Falcao will be joining him at the Principality club.
Rodriguez and Falcao are teammates in the Colombian national team and the 21-year-old is excited at the prospect of playing alongside the Atletico Madrid hit-man – who is expected to sign for Les Monegasques in the next few days.
“I have played with him before and now that we are going to be together it will be something nice too,” the winger told Colombian newspaper El Tiempo.
“I am full of pride to be with a friend and hopefully we can achieve big things.”
Rodriguez signed for Monaco last Friday along with FC Porto teammate Joao Moutinho for a combined transfer fee of £60m.
However, it is thought Russian billionaire owner will have to fork out nearly that amount again to land Falcao, with a bid of £51m expected to be enough to convince Atleti to sell.
Monaco have also announced the signing of veteran former Chelsea and Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho, who joins the Ligue 1 side on a one-year deal with the option of a further year.
Powerful Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes has certainly been busy lining up transfers to the Principality club as Rodriguez, Moutinho, Carvalho and Falcao are all on his books.
Further stars represented by Mendes are Barcelona’s Victor Valdes and Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao – another two top European players expected to be making their way to the French Riviera in the very near future.
