Chelsea winger Eden Hazard won the 2015 PFA Player of the Year on Sunday night, topping a vote of his peers, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane and Manchester United’s David de Gea.
Hazard, who has scored 13 goals and popped up with eight assists in 33 Premier League matches this season, addressed his adoring public after picking up his latest shiny trophy.
The 24-year-old said that he was unsure whether he deserved the award.
“I’m very happy,” he told fans and reporters. “One day I want to be the best and what I did this season is play very well, Chelsea played very well.
“I don’t know if I deserve to win but it is good for me. It is better to be voted by the players – they know everything about football.
“Personally I have played a good season, I have been there in the big games and I scored a lot of important goals, this is why I’m better this season.”
Despite Hazard’s modesty, Chelsea captain John Terry took to Instagram (see post below) where he posted a photo of the Belgian international and wrote “you fully deserve it”.
