Spain forward is keen to be coached by ‘Mou’.
Misfiring Chelsea front man Fernando Torres says that he has absolutely no intention whatsoever of leaving Stamford Bridge this summer to join Liga champions FC Barcelona, as the Spaniard wants to work with new Blues head coach Jose Mourinho, reports the Daily Mail.
The Spain international has been in west London for the past two-and-a-half seasons now, having originally joined the mega-rich Premier League outfit from arch-rivals Liverpool in Jan 2011 for a British-record transfer fee of £50 million.
However, it is fair to say that in the intervening two-and-a-half years the 29-year-old has endured a tough time of it in the capital, failing to recapture the electric corm in front of goal that he displayed during his time on Merseyside.
In total, the striker has appeared in 131 matches in all competitions for Chelsea, scoring just 34 goals in the process, including only 15 strikes in 82 Premier League contests, but the player himself says that he wants to work with the Portuguese to be able to become one of the best attackers in the world again.
“I want to continue, I want to complete the contract I signed and continue winning trophies and I would like to be the best in the world in my position again,” Torres told Spanish paper AS.
“There’s no better place than to be than at Chelsea with Mourinho.
“His (Jose’s) words motivate me. He’s said he doesn’t want to speak with the players that are in this tournament (Confederations Cup) until it’s over.
“We will meet soon, he will explain what he thinks of me and my situation, and I’ll tell him what I think.
“His trophies and achievements speak for himself. Not all the best coaches have been footballers.
“If you start to think about the players that have been in his teams, the strikers, they have all had great years.
“It’s always nice to hear about interest from clubs like Barcelona, but my plan is to stay at Chelsea.”
