Blues striker Torres let off by FA after grabbing Tottenham defender’s face.
Chelsea’s Fernando Torres will not face a further ban from the FA after grabbing Jan Vertonghen’s face in the 1-1 draw at Tottenham on Saturday.
Torres, 29, was sent off in the second half after picking up a second yellow card in an innocuous-looking clash of heads with the Belgian but was lucky to still be on the pitch after grabbing Vertonghen’s face earlier in the second period.
The Spain striker will miss one match through suspension but could have seen his ban increased by three matches if the FA took retrospective action.
But the governing body have decided not to further punish Torres because ‘one of the match officials saw the coming together of the two players, albeit not in its entirety’.
