Schurrle speaks about the relationship the winger has with his national team-mates.
In the biggest tie of the League Cup this week, Arsenal will host Chelsea and Andre Schurrle has spoken about national team-mates Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil.
Whilst on the international stage the trio are colleagues and friends, the Blues forward says that the same can’t be said when they face each other in the cup.
“I’ll be happy to see him [Ozil] and [Per] Mertesacker because we have a good team spirit in the national team and we are all good friends, but tomorrow, for 90 minutes, there are no friends,” Schurrle told the club’s website.
“I am very happy to be a part of our squad, and with a team like Chelsea you want to win every competition you are in, so we’ll do everything tomorrow to win the match.”
Manager Jose Mourinho has already spoken out about the tie, claiming that the Gunners have an unfair advantage because of the west London side’s fixture congestion.
Mourinho’s men were involved in a thrilling Premier League encounter with Manchester City on Sunday – which they won 2-1 – whilst the north London club played the lunchtime kickoff on Saturday.
However, with it being the first opportunity for English clubs to pick up silverware this season, expect both the 50-year-old and Arsene Wenger to be going for the win.
Mourinho won this competition twice during the Portuguese ace’s last spell at Stamford Bridge, whilst Wenger has never lifted the trophy.
