Play-maker will fight to impress the ‘Special One.’
Despite being left on the bench for most of the season so far, Juan Mata has stayed loyal to Chelsea and to manager Jose Mourinho.
Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal were all in the race to sign the 25-year-old, but the Spain international refused all offers, determined to create a future at Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho seemingly prefers creative midfielders Eden Hazard and Oscar to the Spanish play-maker currently, though Blues fans disagree having voted him their player of the year in 2012 and 2013.
“I think it’s normal in every transfer window that there are lots of rumours but I’m happy here,” Mata was quoted in the Daily Mail
“It’s been a very, very good two seasons for me here, maybe the best of my career, and what I want this season is the same.
“I’m looking forward to achieving as many trophies as we did the last two seasons and hopefully this is going to be a good season for us again.”
Mata disregards the idea that the Spain international isn’t part of Mourinho’s master-plan at Stamford Bridge, offering a simple explanation for the lack of game time this season – a thigh injury
Also in refreshing change from the opinions of most footballers the former Valencia man says the midfielder may have had too much time off over the summer.
“These two seasons have flown by… but to me this is good because when you are enjoying things and you are happy, time goes quicker,” Mata continued.
“I had four weeks off [ahead of pre-season training] and to be honest that’s too much time for me because in the last five or six years I didn’t have this sort of rest.
“But I’ve had plenty of rest and now I’m feeling really good. The best thing for me is to play because I love to play.”
