Ashley Barnes not charged for horror tackle on Chelsea ace Nemanja Matic.
Twitter intensely debates Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic’s controversial red card.
Although Chelsea are appealing against the three-match ban given to Nemanja Matic, Blues officials know he won’t be allowed to play in Sunday’s Capital One Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur, report the Daily Star.
Matic faces a suspension after being sent off for violent conduct in a 1-1 draw with Burnley at the weekend.
Many witnesses felt that Matic was unlucky to be dismissed, because he only pushed Ashley Barnes, who had just tackled him in a very aggressive and dangerous manner.
Chelsea will ask the FA to review the severity of the ban, but according to the Star, the best they can hope for is a reduction from three matches to one, meaning Matic is guaranteed to miss his side’s Wembley date with Tottenham.
Matic did not play when Spurs and Chelsea last met. Tottenham took full advantage of the 26-year-old’s absence, winning 5-3 at White Hart Lane on January 1.
