Bears TE Martellus Bennett was third on the team in receiving yards in 2013. He used his massive 6’7″ frame to set career highs in receptions and yards.
The Chicago Bears have suspended starting TE Martellus Bennett for an undisclosed period of time as a result of a fight he started during Monday’s practice.
During a play, CB Kyle Fuller tried to strip the ball from Bennett after he had caught the ball. The attempted strip caused Bennett to fall to the ground and he immediately got up and slammed Fuller to the ground.
Bears GM Phil Emery told the Chicago Tribune that the length of the suspension will be contingent on conversations with Bennett over the incident.
“This is a process that we’re working with Martelllus on,” Emery said. “We are in contact with him. Our goal is to have Martellus back as soon as possible. He’s a loved and respected teammate and we want him back. But it’s a process that we’ll have to work with.”
Bennett was third on the team with 759 receiving yards and 5 receiving TDs in 2013. At 6’7″ he is one of the biggest receiving targets in football.
