Bears QB Jay Cutler lost an experienced receiving target in TE Zach Miller.
The Bears have placed TE Zach Miller on injured reserve following a foot injury that he suffered during the preseason game against the Jaguars on Thursday.
NFL.com’s Ian Rappaport reported that it was a Lisfranc fracture, which means Miller tore the ligaments in his foot.
Miller played very well as the backup for Martellus Bennett in the Week 1 preseason game against the Eagles. Miller had six catches for 68 yards in the game.
Miller’s rise in the depth chart was the result of Bennett’s suspension from the team for getting in a fight with CB Kyle Fuller. Bennett’s suspension was lifted several days ago.
Miller has an extensive injury history, missing each of the last two seasons because of injuries. In his first two seasons with Jacksonville he played 29 games and recorded 428 yards and 3 TDs. However, in 2011 he played in only 4 games before missing the rest of the season to injury, and he ended up missing the entire 2012 and 2013 seasons due to injuries.
