Former first round pick is shipped off to Tampa in exchange for a sixth round draft pick in 2014.The Chicago Bears have cut ties with their first overall pick from 2011 Gabe Carimi, after they traded the under performing offensive tackle to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for a sixth round pick next year, per reports on NFL.com.
The offensive tackle was benched from his starting position during a poor 2012 season, and has been considered a bust since he entered the league two years ago, after leaving Wisconsin as a highly touted offensive line prospect.
After battling a number of knee injuries, and poor form when he was given the opportunity to play, new head coach Marc Trestman decided it was time to cut ties with the 24-year old, and was able to convince Tampa Bay into giving up a sixth round pick for the Illinois native.
The Bears drafted Oregon offensive tackle Kyle Long this year, and are looking to immediately start the raw talent at right tackle before moving him over to the blind side when he is suited to the NFL game.
