Big name recruit finally to make his AFL debut with Melbourne.
Finally some good news has been given to Melbourne Demons fans with big-name signing Chris Dawes expected to be named to take on the Gold Coast Suns this weekend.
Melbourne landed Dawes a part of their attack on the free agent market at the end of the last season, but his signature did come at a price.
The Demons traded picks No.20 (Tim Broomhead) and No.47 (Mitch Wilkins) to Collingwood for the 2010 premiership player at the end of last year.
But with the Demons season already beginning to go south at 1-5, the full-forward’s inclusion into the side give them a timely boost ahead of locking horns with the Suns.
The former Magpie had been battling a hamstring strain, but had done enough to prove his fitness to Demons’ trainers after looking impressive in the VFL for Casey.
If Dawes is able to make it through training and is named for the Dees, he could provide his side with a valuable target up forward as the Suns have been hit with injuries across their half-back line to date this year.
Dawes has appeared in a Melbourne jersey this year in a NAB Cup game, but is yet to do so in a premiership contest due to his hamstring and calf injuries.
