Chris Eubank Jr has vowed to “blast out” Billy Joe Saunders in their grudge match at the ExCeL Arena in London on Saturday night.
Eubank Jr has accused his rival of giving boxing a bad reputation with his interviews and comments in the build-up to their fight, and he has promised to send him packing for good after they meet in the ring.
Saunders will defend his British, Commonwealth and European middleweight titles on Saturday night, and he believes that he will have too much experience and quality for Eubank Jr who has won all 18 of his professional bouts but against relatively unknown opponents.
Nevertheless, the unbeaten 25-year-old is confident in his ability to step up to a higher level of opposition and he believes that his power will be too much for Saunders to cope with.
“Disgraceful isn’t even the word to describe some of the things he has said about me leading up to this fight,” he told talkSPORT.
“He is upset a lot of people with the language and the things he has tried to put across about me. It brings a bad light on the sport.
“Kids are watching us as professionals and they are looking at us to teach them how to act. Kids will look at the things he is saying and will think, ‘if the British, Commonwealth and European champion is saying this stuff about his opponent before a fight, then this is the type of thing I should be doing’.
“He is a let down to the sport and I cannot wait to blast him out of British boxing for good.
“He won’t last the 12 rounds with me. He doesn’t have the heart or the spirit to handle the power that I am going to be putting on him.”
Saunders has been criticised for some of the derogatory comments he has made about Eubank Jr, but he has been more composed and controlled in recent interviews.
In contrast, Eubank Jr failed to turn up to the first two press conferences between the pair which irked promoter Frank Warren and broadcasters, and he refused to do a head-to-head with his rival on Monday.
Nevertheless, fans won’t have to wait much longer with the weigh-in scheduled for Friday afternoon ahead of fight night and a showdown between these two British stars.
