Who will lead the Lions in the Australian tour?
The race between England’s Cris Robshaw and Ireland’s Brian O’Driscoll for the captaincy of the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia is hotting up with the Six Nations final rounds approaching.
Coach Warren Gatland will be watching the Six Nations results closely to decide who will lead the Lions for the June tour.
Ireland captain O’Driscoll was a firm favourite to retain his position as skipper but according to Fox Sports, England captain Robshaw is making a strong case with his form for the Three Lions in the Six Nations.
Wales captain Sam Warburton is an outside chance of being named but with O’Driscoll’s experience and the superb form of Robshaw make the decision look like a two-man race.
Former England scrum half Dewi Morris is a strong supporter of Robshaw, whose form in the Six Nations as England looks towards a clean sweep has been impressive.
“Week in week out, game in game out, he’s (Robshaw) almost man of the match so at the moment he’s going to be top of the tree,” Morris said.
Former Lions captain O’Driscoll will be more concentrated on cementing a spot in the squad after mixed performances in loses against England and Scotland.
The Lions tour of Australia will begin in June against a selection of Australian Super Rugby clubs before the much anticipated Wallabies test.
