Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke has claimed Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is a role model, ahead of Saturday evening’s crunch Premier League fixture, the Mirror reports.
Benteke has struggled this term, scoring just the five league goals, whereas Liverpool’s Uruguayan has been simply exceptional – bagging 22 in just 16 appearances so far.
Benteke thinks the way Suarez has bounced back from his problems over the summer should be an inspiration for all struggling players.
Suarez received a ten game ban for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic last season, and was hounded by the media for his conduct regarding a possible transfer from Liverpool, too.
“Suarez is definitely one of the best, and the thing I like about him is that he just keeps going,” said the striker who last season bagged 23 goals in all competitions.
“It’s a lesson for every player. You can see what happened with him last season and he came back stronger. It’s a good motivation for every player, me also. Sometimes a striker can try to dribble, to do some skills and you lose the ball.
“If for example a striker tries to do something and loses the ball he will lose his hope and his confidence. But Suarez never, he will always try try try again. He will shoot one time outside of the net but he will try again until he scores a goal and that’s why he is a great player.”
Aston Villa beat Liverpool at Anfield last season, with Benteke playing brilliantly. This term though, the Reds have been excellent at home, and Paul Lambert’s side will be more than happy to leave Anfield with a point.
