Benteke has been strongly targeted by Liverpool and Chelsea, but Tottenham Hotspur are keen to make a swap deal, according to The Express. Tottenham is expected to offer forward Emmanuel Adebayor in return, and Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood is reported to be interested in reuniting with Adebayor.
Sherwood previously worked with Adebayor at Tottenham before accepting the Aston Villa manager job in 2014.
He was able to bring out Adebayor’s full potential, as the forward scored 11 goals in the 2013-14 season before being held to two in the 2014-15 season.
Benteke carries a £32.5m buy-out clause, but Tottenham is hoping that offering their Togo international will convince Aston Villa to lower their asking price.
Spurs finished in fifth place in the 2014-15 season, so they may emerge as a dark horse to win the championship if they can land Benteke.
