Louis van Gaal’s good friend Jasper Cillessen is closing in on a move to Old Trafford. Can he replace David de Gea?
Man United are still holding their breathe waiting for a decision from goalkeeper David de Gea on his future, but the Red Devils have a contingency plan: sign Jasper Cillessen.
According to the Metro, the two sides are believed to be very close to a deal with the Ajax goalkeeper reportedly telling his teammates that he’s already decided to leave. Man United are also believed to already have a verbal agreement in place with Cillessen to bring the 26-year-old star to Old Trafford very soon.
Cillessen started every game for Man United manager Louis van Gaal with the Netherlands national team in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The Netherlands finished 3rd in the tournament behind Germany and Argentina.
Last month Caughtoffside.com reported that Man United were readying a £20 million bid for the Eredivisie superstar following a season that was even more impressive for Cillessen than De Gea was. In 2014-15, Cillessen recorded 3.7 saves per game with a 81.7% save rate, 39 catches, 24 punches and 12 clean sheets – all of which were higher than De Gea’s marks with the Red Devils.
