The Cincinnati Bengals lost rookie running back Jeremy Hill in their preseason game to a shoulder injury.
Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Jeremy Hill left Saturday’s preseason game against the New York Jets with a shoulder injury.
He rushed for 16 yards on three carries and had 36 yards on six carries in his preseason debut. The Bengals were expected to make him the No. 2 running back and possibly force BenJarvus Green-Ellis out the door.
Green-Ellis will be a lock to make the roster though if Hill’s injury is serious enough, and Rex Burkhead will also battle for carries if he can recover from a knee injury that took him out.
If the second-round rookie is able to recover quickly, he will provide a perfect complement to starter Gio Bernard.
Bernard provides an electric presence while Hill is capable of being the bruising back, which is the role Green-Ellis has played.
The Bengals may be forced to continue with Bernard and Green-Ellis as their 1-2 punch in the backfield if Hill and Burkhead’s injuries are serious.
