The Cincinnati Bengals will look to recover from a close loss against the New York Jets, who are still trying to choose between Geno Smith and Michael Vick.
The Cincinnati Bengals lost 41-39 to the Kansas City Chiefs in an epic battle, but 21 of those points were not the defense’s fault. Two pick-sixes were thrown by Jason Campbell, and the special teams unit allowed DeAnthony Thomas to return a punt for a touchdown.
The defense also registered six sacks altogether and intercepted Chase Daniel once. Quarterback Andy Dalton looked solid as a whole on his only drive, and Matt Scott threw two touchdowns in the fourth quarter while adding 68 yards on the ground.
Cornerback Darqueze Dennard will be a key player to watch after having a solid preseason debut. The first-round rookie had a sack and four tackles and figures to keep the Bengals’ secondary strong.
Meanwhile, the Jets have a depleted secondary with multiple cornerbacks out, including Dee Milliner, who will be out for the remainder of the preseason. Dexter McDougle is out for the season with a torn ACL, and Dimitri Patterson will be out for a while with a leg injury.
They are also still trying to figure out their quarterback situation after Geno Smith and Michael Vick each failed to impress.
They are reportedly thinking about utilizing Wildcat plays with Vick, so fans may see a preview of this in the preseason, although the Jets may choose to keep it under wraps until the regular season starts.
